Steve Green – Head Coach – South Plains College

Coach Steve Green begins his 19th season at South Plains College where his coaching record is 462-122 (0.79). On March 16, 2015, Coach Green was inducted into the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The two-time national coach of the year earned nine conference titles, seven regional championships, and two national championships.

At South Plains College, Coach Green accomplishments include seven conference titles, six regional championships, eight national tournament appearances, and three national titles. In 2018, Coach Green won his third  NJCAA National ChampionshipIn 2012, Coach Green’s team went 36-0 and won his second NJCAA National Championship.

Before his arrival at South Plains College in 2000, he served as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and then spent three years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the San Diego State University.

During 1991-1994 seasons, Coach Green guided Midland College to a 73-24 (0.742) record, region championship, and eighth place in the National Tournament. His first head coaching job was at Howard College in 1988. In his three-seasons there he produced two WJCAC titles, one regional championship, and an overall record of 81-19 (0.81).

Prior to Howard College, Coach Green worked as an assistant coach at The University of Arkansas, Lamar University, and The University of Houston. 

Coach Green received his Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Christian College where he played basketball and tennis. He then earned a Master’s degree in Education and Kinesiology from Sul Ross State University.

A native of Miami, Oklahoma, he played football and basketball at Miami High School, earning All-State honors in both sports while winning a state championship in basketball.
